Bangladesh Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Ex-PM Sheikh Hasina

A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant for former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with 45 others, including her close aides, on charges related to murder and extortion.

The warrant stems from allegations of offenses against humanity and violent clashes committed during street marches. That resulted in several deaths.

The court has instructed that Hasina be produced before it by November 18, 2024, and authorities have been systematizing to seize her assets if she does not return by the deadline.

The objections raised were against a controversial quota system for governance jobs. Reports predict that over 600 people have died in the violence associated with these protests. Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam said that Hasina was at the center of orchestrating “slaughter” during this period of unrest.
