Prithvi Shaw’s Career Struggles: Kevin Pietersen’s Advice for Redemption – Prithvi Shaw, a one-time poster boy of Indian cricket, is now in troubled waters. The 25-year-old batter, who scored a Test hundred on his debut, has poorly slipped out of form and out of the side. Perhaps no player in the present IPL team shocked cricket fans more than Shaw, who went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction held with a base price of ₹75 lakh; Shaw was not bought for the first time since his debut in 2018. Shaw has been on the firing line for his fitness, form, and off-field conduct.
Critics like the former cricketer Mohammed Kaif have singled out how his off-ground behavior influenced his play. More recently, Shaw was left out of the Mumbai Ranji team because he was overweight and out of shape. Even though he was back in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament, he had no public performance.
In these difficult times, Kieron Pietersen, who is an ex-England cricketer, has given pretty sober advice to Shaw regarding his fitness and social life, advising Shaw to cut down on updates about himself on social media. Known through a post on X, Pietersen announced the beginning of a disciplined period, writing, “I watched an interesting show today: COMEBACK.
If Shaw has any sense around him, someone should advise him that he should be off that social media and train his absolute backside off. Too talented to throw it all away.” Shaw’s decline is an excellent example of the potential not realized due to improper work attitude toward sports as a business.
Whether or not he will be able to achieve this feat is left to debate, but as Pietersen observes, Shaw still has all it takes to stage a remarkable comeback story as long as he is willing and has the right help.
