Ajinkya Rahane vs. Venkatesh Lyer: KKR CEO Honest Verdict on IPL Captaincy: Kolkata Knight Riders have a big question mark hanging over their captaincy as they prepare for IPL 2025 after five successful years under the leadership of wicketkeeper-batsman Shreyas Iyer. Nevertheless, the team has been performing well in the previous season and has decided to let off Iyer at the start of the new season.
It has led to a debate between two major contenders: Two players indeed have played in the team, and they, including Rahane, with his talent and experience, are considered a safe bet, while the big money spent on Venkatesh, Rs 23.75 crore, gives him the stamp of the franchise’s approval thanks to recent performances.

Calm down to the situation was made by the KKR CEO Venky Mysore when he explained that everything must be done cautiously. He said, “We will sit down, take our time, and make the right decision,” adding that the think tank would hold meetings before settling on the captaincy. For his part, Venkatesh Iyer was willing to come up, explaining that he had once served as vice captain when Nitish Rana was unavailable.

He said, “There is nothing as a caption, but there should always be a way that allows everyone to feel that they are part of the team.” Venkatesh also mused about the prospects of defending the title should he be asked to do so.
