Wangchuk Fast Enters 11th Day: Demand for Ladakh Sixth Schedule Gains Support.

Supporters Gather in Solidarity

On the 11th day of Wangchuk’s fast at Ladakh Bhavan in Delhi, followers continued to gather in solidarity with his request for Ladakh under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

The Sixth Schedule seeks to protect the rights of tribal people, their culture, and the environment in Ladakh, a region known for its unique ecological and cultural heritage.

Among the groups showing support were 25 to 30 members of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, who came to meet Wangchuk earlier today. He was seen stepping out of Ladakh Bhavan, appearing visibly weak but still determined to interact with his supporters.

Wangchuk, an influential figure, has been at the forefront of raising concerns about the future of Ladakh’s environment and the rights of its indigenous people.

Student Support for the Cause

Today, a group of students from Delhi University also reached out to show their help for Wangchuk’s cause. One student, when asked why they came, said, “He’s doing this for all of us, for the environment. It doesn’t matter if you’re Hindu, Muslim, or from any other group; the environment is important for everyone.

“The students expressed their appreciation for Wangchuk’s fight, noting that his advocacy is crucial for Ladakh’s fragile ecosystem.”

Government Response Still Awaited

Despite the growing support, Wangchuk said we are still waiting for the center’s response. “We are not trying to reach out separately. This fast itself is our form of communication. We are sitting here because of assurances given but yet awaited,” he added.

His message stays hopeful, even though an administration response is still pending. “Hope is not diminished. It is still there. Otherwise, we would have given up already,” he said.

Wangchuk’s mild protest has acquired attention from environmentalists, students, and activists alike.

Sonam’s message is superficial: Ladakh is under the Sixth Schedule. Protection of the environment and the livelihoods of its people. As the fast restarts, so does the hope that the government will react to these demands for the sake of the future of Ladakh.
