Farmers Protest: March Suspended After Tear Gas Incident: Farmers marching from Punjab’s Shambhu border to Delhi under the banners of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha suspended their march on December 6 after several protesters were injured in tear gas shelling.
The farmers are demanding a legal guarantee for minimum support prices (MSP), no hikes in electricity tariffs, debt waivers, pensions for farmers and farm laborers, and justice for victims of violence in Lakhimpur Kheri and the 2020-21 protests.
The procession, planned to begin at 1 PM, faced heavy security at the Shambhu border in Haryana’s Ambala district. Authorities deployed additional personnel and imposed Section 163 of the BNS, prohibiting unlawful assemblies of four or more people. The farmers alleged they had informed authorities about the protest in advance, while police claimed no prior permission was obtained.

Delhi police also ramped up security at the Singhu border, preparing for potential escalation. A key protest leader, Jagjit Singh Dallewal, continues his fast-unto-death for the tenth consecutive day at the Khanauri border.
Earlier this year, confrontations between farmers and security personnel occurred when protests were stopped on February 13 and 21, raising fears of similar clashes during today’s march. Security forces remain on high alert to address any further escalation.
