UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson Murdered in Targeted Attack Outside NYC Hotel:

UnitedHealthcare’s chief executive officer, Brian Thompson, who was 50, was shot dead in a targeted shooting on Wednesday morning at Manhattan’s Hilton Midtown hotel. Video evidence put Thompson in the process of approaching the investor’s conference when the attacker fired at his back and buttock.

The gunman later escaped on an electric bike. Thompson was rushed to Mount Sinai West Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:12 a.m. Police revealed that the attack was premeditated, but concern with the motive is still being investigated.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Thompson was a deliberate target, adding that in surveillance video, the shooter could be seen waiting outside the hotel for several minutes before opening fire. Shell casings and other things that were left near the scene are being analyzed, and security camera footage captured in the nearest Starbucks may also help study the shooter.

Detectives have also scanned the suspect’s phone and possible threats linked to UnitedHealthcare activities and social media accounts. The suspect, whose face was masked and who was clad in a cream jacket and grey backpack, was last photographed riding towards Central Park shortly after the incident. Police think that the gun that was used had a silencer.

Thompson has been the CEO at UnitedHealthcare since 2021; he was a prominent man and the father of two children. His death has saddened the entire healthcare industry, people in his field of practice, and healthcare leaders in particular.
