Sadh Guru Case: Supreme Court Stays Investigation Going on Against Isha Foundation, Accused of Holding Retired Professor's Daughters Hostage

The Spiritual Guru Jaggi Vasudev Kesh Foundation has a huge relief from the Supreme Court in the case of the professor’s daughters being held hostage. The Supreme Court said that Sadhguru is revered and has lakhs of followers, and an investigation cannot be initiated on mere verbal claims.

This whole case is related to two Sannyasi girls, The father alleges that the Isha Foundation has kept his daughters, hostage and illegally. Professor Kamaraj told the court that both his daughters had graduated in engineering, and both of them had joined the Isha Foundation.

Dr. Kamaraj alleges that his daughters are not even allowed to talk to him, and he claims that the Isha Foundation is misleading people. After these allegations, the Madras High Court ordered the police to search Isha Foundation. About 500 police officers raided the foundation’s ashram and searched every corner.

The Isha Foundation approached the Supreme Court challenging the Madras High Court order. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi appeared on behalf of the Isha Foundation. Chief Justice of India D.Y. The CJI himself spoke to the daughters of Dr. S. Kamaraj on the phone. During the conversation, both the sanyasi girls told the CJI that they were living in the ashram of their own free will and could go out of the ashram of their own free will.

The sanyasi girls said that we had also told the High Court that they were living in the Isha Foundation of their own free will. After talking to both the sanyasi girls, the Supreme Court ordered the Tamil Nadu government to give the details of all the criminal cases registered against the Isha Foundation to the Supreme Court.

The court said these are issues of religious freedom with serious matters. Sadguru is highly revered and has millions of followers. The High Court cannot initiate such investigation on oral claims. The High Court should transfer this case to the Supreme Court. The next hearing will be on October 18.
